As you know the NZ Initiative is part of the Atlas Network ( Big Oil and anti climate action ) so it's only fitting that we look at what the Chairman and Co-Founder Roger Partridge is saying in the NZ Herald today.
Roger Partridge wrote an article attacking the recent decision by the Supreme Court to allow climate activist Mike Smith to proceed with a case to sue seven large polluters in New Zealand.
The arguments put forward by the Atlas Network ( Partridge ) started with minimising our climate emissions by stating that New Zealand emissions only make up 0.17 of 1 per cent of global emissions so why bother?
As you know if all nations did that then we'd get nowhere and if all small nations did that one third of emissions across the globe would be ignored.
The Atlas Network position on emissions is don't reduce them - but instead just buy carbon credits as part of an ETS - which happens to mirror National and Act Party policies.
Partridge argued that if the big polluters cashed in some of their carbon credits in exchange for reducing their emissions - this would simply free up units for use by other emitters - cancelling things out and that Mike Smith's claims were somehow not effective anyway.
Partridge offered the Atlas Network arguments that the costs in court time, millions in legal fees in a symbolic trial was just a silly waste, and that the Supreme Court were behaving like they should be in parliament.
So there you go - that's how the Atlas Network shape opinion to keep that climate change happening and protecting fossil fuel profits...while the likes of Farrar argue they never get involved in local issues...but wait there is more.
Partridge is a member of the Mont Pelerin Society just like Ruth Richardson and so many others here - but back to the NZ Initiative ( Atlas Network Think tank )
Alumni members of the NZ Initiative include Dame Jenny Gibbs mother of the Chair of the Atlas Network Debbi Gibbs, David Richwhite ( former business partner of Alan Gibbs ), and honorary members include Catherine Issac and Tony Carter.
Catherine Issac is Vice President of the Act Party ( formerly President ) and she was once a speech writer for Roger Douglas and Richard Prebble - plus she is the architect of NZ models for Charter Schools.
Tony Carter ( Co Chair of the NZ Initiative ) was formerly the Chairman of Air New Zealand - from May 2013 until September 2019.
Christopher Luxon rose to CE of Air NZ in June 2012 - and left in the same month September 2019 as Tony Carter. Now I am pretty sure Tony Carter was involved in the campaign against Three Waters but he was the guy who was attacked by Shane Jones over Air NZ not caring about the regions.
Okay so Carter was chair and John Key was on his board along with Dame Thereasa Walsh ( former Chair of TVNZ ) - so it looks like Luxon left with Carter and new troops moved in.
One of those new people was Andrew Kirton ( Labour ) who replaced Duncan Small - and you know who Duncan Small is?
Duncan Small ( comms guy in Luxons ear ) is Nicola Willis' husband. Wow...
Now add to this that Nicola Willis was herself Chair of the NZ Initiative for a period and everything starts to connect.
Tony Carter said Luxon had made an outstanding contribution to Air New Zealand as Luxon pretended he would take Summer to decide what to do as he just left at the same time as Tony.
Luxon is advised on economic matters and Climate policy by an NZ Initiative member and Simeon Brown is the same.
The NZ Initiative are inside Luxon's inner circle...which explains the foreign buyers tax, the no action on Climate emissions, the spin about commitment to climate goals but only via the ETS, and the social investment policies of Bill English ( Thomas' uncle ) which are promoted by the NZ Initiative.
The grip of the Atlas Network is here in broad daylight.
But NZ media are too afraid to report it.
