Christopher Luxon landed in Manila in the Philippines today on an MZ military aircraft after promising to travel commercially before the 2023 election if elected. While in Manila Luxon dodged, ducked, dived and weaved - avoiding all questions about whether he would get a public sign off or mandate before signing us up to AUKUS 2.
Luxon said it was too premature and it will take several months to explore the opportunities if there are any and he denied his position was any different from the previous Government.
Luxon had obviously read Wikipedia cos he told the media there are 110 million people there and the fastest growing economy in the Indo-Pacific region - and he wanted to "build-out" trade and investment - which was corporate code for goofing off and signing nothing.
Luxon reaffirmed our position that we don't take a position.
Not when it came to ships in the South China seas and he had no bloody clue whether we'd join in military exercises there.
Back home about 3,000 people will lose their jobs in the Public Service but it was revealed today that Nicola Willis was flying blind and still has no idea what flow on economic impacts these job cuts will have on the economy.
Treasury said nope - no advice was sought and they gave none to Willis who - basically went ahead without understanding any of the basic stuff.
"She has no evidence the current program will help build a stronger economy and she has no evidence it will help reduce the cost of living" - said Craig Renney - or words to that effect.
"What an utter tool she is", said an organic punga, "Swanning around in the US, flying business class while all this happens".
"It's in the psychopathic eyes", said a Flax Bush, "Those poor poor people".
"Reduce the cost of Living" warbled a majestical Tui before yelling "YEAH RIGHT" and flying off to peck at Simeon Brown.
"Terrible, blind ideological neoliberal policy", said G from G News.
"An ideology is something that has you", said Monty licking his paws after exploring the native bush now he was allowed outside.
In other news, RNZ reported the following after the outrageous comments by Pumpkin Head Jones about scrapping the Waitangi Tribunal ...
"Speaking to RNZ, Law Society Tumuaki Natalie Coates said the role of the Waitangi tribunal was to inquire into contemporary issues, acting as a check and balance. It's always had this jurisdiction to look at contemporary issues and contemporary Treaty breaches of the Crown. It has done that through the duration of its life.
"I'd reject that there was a heyday. They've always done it and they continue to do it. Given the winding up of historical stuff there seems to be an increasing focus on contemporary breach issues. Coates said there was a growing trend of critiquing not only the Waitangi Tribunal but the judiciary more broadly. Confidence in the judiciary is vital to the basic functioning of our legal system. It is inappropriate for one of the key powers in our society to be critiquing the courts. People need to trust the courts. Its integrity is vital."
Nobody reading this is Gerry Brownlee !!!
Hooray !!!
Craig Renney got an opinion article published in the NZ Herald which said Willis had broken her election promise not to borrow.
"If the Government chooses to go ahead with the tax cuts and keeps its promise not to borrow, it will need a further $15b of public sector cuts on top of those cuts already made. That would be impossible - public investment and services are already seriously undermined and would be severely compromised if that level of reduction was further imposed." wrote Craig.
The Team NZ Americas Cup Boat A75 has a new name - and will be called Taihoro.
A Brazilian woman wheeled her dead uncle into a bank to sign off a loan and got charged with attempted theft by fraud and abusing a corpse.
The Te Papa Treaty of Waitangi Exhibit is being taken down.
NZ Police have executed three search warrants in Auckland to help crack down on multi-national crime ring - and it looks like they found things as they took computers and stuff.
Vicki's Dad is sleeping in the room next door cos we are looking after him for a while after he was discharged today. Probably the best rest he's had in days.
Vicki's pretty exhausted now and we are having fish'n chips for tea and probably blob out on the couch.
Hope you have a pleasant evening.
