Luxon Lies Go Unchallenged - 8 Years to consent a wind farm?

It's not the first time Luxon has repeated rhetoric that is provably false and today he did this again in a standup at the Basin Reserve when he repeatedly told media it takes eight years to consent a wind farm in New Zealand and two years to build and this was why we need a fast track consenting bill that destroys just about everything in it's path in the name of "getting it done" fast and cheap to make money.

I have not seen anyone challenge Luxon yet about it taking eight years to consent a wind farm but recently I did this very research - ( you go to the local government records ) when the G News computer had smoked itself - and so I present to you the details of that research now.

Here are the consent times for the wind farms consented ( according to the NZ Wind Energy Association ) that are still waiting for "Market demand conditions to be economic" ( ie. Gas supplies to run low ).

Genesis - Castle Hill wind farm - the application for consent was lodged in August 2011 and the consent was granted in 2013. That's two years not eight years.

Kapuni wind farm - consent was applied for in August 2021 and approved in December 2021 - a total of five months to consent not eight years.

Mercury - Kaiwaikawe wind farm took 1.4 years to consent not eight years.

Mercury - Kaiwere Downs wind farm - consent lodged November 2007 and granted June 2008 which is seven months not eight years.

Ventus Energy - Taumatotara 22 turbine wind farm - consent RM050019 was originally applied for on 15 December 2005 and granted in November 2008. That's just under three years ( 2 years 11 months ) not eight years to consent.

MainPower - Mt Cass Windfarm - Consent applied for in 2007 and declined in 2009 ( only two years ) - but this decision went to the environment court took till Dec 2011 to resolve. So this took five years if you count the time in the environment court.

Okay so as you can see the average time to get a consent in New Zealand for a wind farm is about two years not eight years as Luxon keeps repeating while media fail to challenge him about this.

Luxon should be held accountable for factually incorrect rhetoric and media should be asking about how he thinks it takes eight years? If he thinks delays are caused because of the environment court after consenting decisions do not please developers or environmentalists or iwi - then he should state that accurately - and not make out it is to do with councils being too slow.

It does not take eight years to consent a wind farm in New Zealand - instead Luxon is enabling the continued delay of building wind farms ( Look we found more Gas and consented that using a fast track process that gets around the Treaty and other concerns ) - by ensuring speedy consents for more Gas and Oil and Mining

This is G from G News reporting for G News and everything good.
